Hi everyone it's been ages since I last posted on the forms. Anyways me and a few friends just played a few rounds the day before and came to this conclusion. The tunnel spheres that connect your base to the another player's is too tough early game and not tough enough for late game. So to resolve this we suggest that you not only have to research to get more tunnel spheres, but also to upgrade how durable they are too. That way as the game progresses they're weak in early game which makes boarding enemy stations much more difficult early game but more possible mid to late game once they's been toughen up a bit from research.
