As an avid RTS player I felt I needed to make a post about this. Ideally there would be a place in the menu to change all of these commands for personal customization. That said this is the putative hotkeys for a game like this imo.
General Hotkeys:
Star system hotkeys: f1, f2, f3 etc... This should immediately transfer the CEO’s screen to the system hotkeyed, instead of having to move your mouse to the sidebar and click on the system you want to see. (Similar feature to savescreen in Starcraft/Supreme Commander)
Control groups: Ctrl+1,2,3 etc. Allows quick navigation to important groups of units by the CEO. It would be great if this encompassed buildings as well as units ie hotkey of production facilities to allow for quicker macro. Control group size/how many units a CEO should be able to select at a time should possibly be given some thought -Though it seems unlimited is where it will end up-.
Add group: Shift+1,2,3 etc. Allows for quick addition of units to control groups.
Macro Commands:
Build: B -Building addons for space station- [Note:It would be nice if we had the options to create not only rotate buildings 180 degrees, but flip them as well]
Research tab: V
Space station controls: C -I thought it would be cool initially if the CEO had to get out of the chair to change these settings, however it doesn't really make sense and would ultimately be more frustrating than the added immersion. Furthermore, it wouldn't make sense to have this 'command chair' that does not have access to something as important as the space station controls-
Active/Deactive Space Station Defense(s): D, Alt+D to bring up detailed space station defense UI.
Units Commands:
Attack:A -AI should attack the first thing it is able to if it is a general A-move-. Pressing A with a group of units on another enemy unit should cause selected units to focus their attack.
Patrol:Q -Have units patrol an area in a specified quadrant, which should be able to be extended with waypoint system-
Unit range: Alt+R -Personally, I'm alright with this not even being a feature as it makes the CEO have to have a better understanding of the weapons and their ranges. It can also be easily discovered with an attack command.
Deploy/Dock: K (Which it is currently set to -I'm fine with this, but perhaps a more intuitive hotkey would be O and U respectively).
Seek cover: G -This could apply to soldiers as well as small fighters-.
If formations of any kind are added consider Alt+Z,X,or Alt+mouse wheel to change formations.
Lastly, while this is more UI and does not specifically have to do with hotkeying it is somewhat imperative to have a unit selected screen in the UI. This allows for 'cloning', and subtracting units from a selection group with relative ease. Here is a link that explains what cloning is with the respect to the game starcraft liquipedia.net/starcraft/Cloning -See shift deselecting method- Cloning is extremely useful for quickly spreading/fanning out units in a control group. This is a very popular tactic in WC3 and SC.
Hopefully these features are in the very very near future, because as of right now the game lacking these functions/features is a huge turn off, and considering the first thing people are likely to do when they begin playing is be a CEO, this experience should be pristine & crisp.
