Would like to say thanks for taking the time to read through, if you do, that is.
I think adding these units, or something similar you think would be better, will have an increase in interest with carriers and fighter bay, being the only two selections that can aquire and provide you with these units.
there might be a change needed with carriers for this to work, and that is let us select what units gets built on the carrier.

Bombers: Roughly around the same size of fighters
Excellent vs starships & structure
Slower than a fighter, but not horribly much.
Weak vs fighters
Effective with fighter escort as fighters can draw enemy fire.
Summary: making starships and structures go boom
Attacking prowess: once engaged the bomber pack of , example, 4 will have a rate of fire of let's say 1.0 to start tearing down those pesky Shields then hull.
Can be built in fighter bay along with fighters.
Carriers can produce maybe a 6 fighter 4 bomber per carrier for escort.
Tech: bigger payload, different payload.

Flak-Fighter
Twice the size of fighters
Medium speed for fighter class
Strong vs fighters & bombers
Weak vs starships and missle-fighters
Description: Having light guns placed around the fighter covering 360 degrees, has maybe a small radius of fire.
Best placed in a swarm of enemy fighters as they can shoot all angles. Or in a fighter/bomber escort to help counter enemy light threats.
Battle prowess: once engaged, fire rate 0.9.
However many guns you throw on this unit will determine how many targets can be aquired at once. It is anti fighter.
Built in fighter bay / carrier
Tech: weapons- can upgrade turrets on ship to having Duo, Trio, Quad, mini-guns ( increases rate of fire to 0.2 )
Ammo- ranging from normal Peirce, explosive shots, tracking bullets ( each ammo increases damage )

Medium speed for fighter class
Strong vs flak-fighters
Good vs starships
Weak vs fighters
Description: armed with a missle payload, unit can attack from a medium distance.
Best placed with fighter counter units.
Battle prowess: once engaged, rate of fire 1.5
Built in fighter bay / carriers
Tech: weapons- upgrade from a single missle pod to a duo, to a trio, to a quad.
(rate of fire from 1.5 to .9 with quad upgrade)
Ammo- ranging from regular burst, to high explosive, tracking missle.
( Having tracking missle researched will grant additional targets to be engaged, but depends how many missle pods you have unlocked that will determine how many units can be locked on and engaged )
