Ion Storm, early game?!?!

Like title says.. I've had it happen to me and seen it done to an opponent.

Maybe mid or late game you can recover from it because hopefully you have Outpost mining and ships coming in with coolant.

But early game? I mean first 8 minutes...

I rushed my opponent with troop transport to stop what he's doing at the moment with research. Well when I get to his system, I came in right behind the ass end of the storm... So it passes over him, I see his buildings with little explosion cinematics going on.. so I say yeah he's doomed...I land my ship anyway.. now the funny part about this after I dock is that his reactors are heating up , no coolant, but now he's being boarded by 35 troops.. he does what any other CEO would have done... Go to defense mode.. well that requires more power .. and his reactors can't take it... But he does it anyway... I swear, no sooner after he turned it on.. it was like a self destruct button for him.. and I don't think he knew what was about to happen.. his base just instantly ignited.. his response in chat for turning on defense and base blowing up when he turns it on was.. "really?!?!?" ...

But anyways, ion storm first 10 minutes is cruel.. you can't recover.

shields are a powerful tool aganced ion storms and asteroids, use them people!

Shields only good for meteor shower.

I've had Shields up when the storm came and still drained my coolant...

I know where my Shields are to activate them, I know how to control my power output , so I know I'm not missing anything else about Shields.

The shields may not block the coolant drain outright, but it does mitigate it a fair bit, especially if the shields are fully powered...

Yes make sure you push the power to full on the shields in the power screen and that should help a lot.

However they shouldn't be appearing within 8 minutes so will see why that is.

I found out why I got the ion Storm early game

Because when you go to host a game, and your waiting for other CEO to join.. the in-game timer is already starting up.. when I got into a game finally, the timer was at 22 minutes into the game.. but for me and opponent it's like 1 minute... So as I start guess what happened? Ion storm in my base...

Yes, make sure to activate the shields before the Icon storm hits your base. Whenever I see an Ion storm heading towards either my Space Station or outposts I activate the shield, Sometimes I also crank up the shield power to 150% when I remember to do it.


When the shields are activated your star base will not lose health and the coolant loss is minimal or nothing at all.

However, shields VS weapons is a different matter. xD
