I've made mention of this but, VR be it even using a controller or K&M would be great. I'd end up not playing and just looking out into space but I'm cool with that.

It's certainly a feature I would like in the game.
I have the Vive and have experienced exactly what you wanted and just looked into space to see the mining ships do their thing, battleships fly overhead and fighters attack incoming star ships. However thats all you can do really at the moment, just watch. So I haven't implemented it yet.
