Something I always had trouble with in EA1 is telling at a glance how advanced my enemies were. The laser weapons are not very clear on which level they belong to, and some look almost identical unless you look closer.
So my idea is that we color code them in EA2! Now I'm not sure how many upgrades there are to a weapon type, but for the purposes of this thread I'm going to assume 5.
So here are the colors, in order of least advanced to most advanced:
White Green Blue Purple Orange
As for implementing the colors, the Pulsed-Laser and Beam weapons are just that color, easy-peasy. If ballistic weapons have a presence in this game and have upgrades as well, they could follow the coding by having their muzzle flashes be the corresponding color. Missiles can have a jet trail with the correct color if those are upgradeable in a similar way. Perhaps even shields of ships could follow this color rule, but perhaps that's a bit extreme, haha.
So what are your thoughts? Obviously the colors I used are just suggestions and you can interchange whatever colors he wishes, and if there are more than five tiers more colors can of course be added. It is a small detail, and I'm probably the only one who has this problem with telling the weapons apart, but still, I wanted to suggest it to you, Rob.

To be honest it may have been because i always zoom in too far too see more of the action but i could always know what type it was
Also from the videos you can see that weapons do have different colors though it is like the first game but a lot more brighter

While it could just be a matter of memorizing the order of research and corresponding color and look, a bit of a helping hand would be, well, helpful.

Oh i see now what you mean well it is a problem but i didn't have any problem with it (mainly because i spent a lot of time memorizing the research tree) the only problem was that two of the colors of weapons in the first game look too similar and are at the earliest part of the tree
