This won't really work for ships and i'm not so sure how well it would go if this were applied to the main station.
All rooms have three levels of damage: Standard, Mangled, Destroyed. Standard is your normal level and what a damaged room is set too once repaired.
Mangled is a room state caused either through a portable bomb detonation from within, or via sustained fire from heavy hardpoint weapons (so no destroying outposts with fighters). In this state there are numerous holes in the hull of the room and the equipment is visably broken. However gravity still works and floors are left undamaged.
Destroyed is a room state caused by further intense damage to a room which results in all but bits of scafolding where the room connects to others being gone. Until repaired units cannot move through this area.
This concept connects with a few other ideas, the first of which is bot power. All non-walker bots (Those have built in generators) connect wirelessly to a stations power grid in order to function. This works for both hostile and friendly bots due to the fact that the added security layer would add an 1.99$ increase in cost per room.
The idea is you could cut off defensive or invasive bots by stratigic detonations/focused attack by ships/hackerbot. This would also give time bombs more of a use in space outside of destroying security gates etc.
This damage concept would also let you sabatoge a opponents goods by spacing stored cargo, allowing you to hurt an opponents logistical outposts without having to take over and hold a station. That or maybe Rob can include bay doors through which traders enter, but which a hackerbot could also force open to space the cargo.
Best part is that none of these ideas require programming EVA!

This is a cool idea, but I fear would cause issues for modeling and making sure textures "knit" together. Additionally, the fact that we are in space and thusly the concept of life support is a thing, it would be strange if the CEO could stroll about freely on one side of the base while the other has a giant gaping hole in it.
I also think that it would defeat the purpose of having interior defenses because one could just blow up a section adjacent to the HQ and dock there, bypassing all the defenses and defeating the purpose of even having them.
